Chiwetel Ejiofor Made Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire

It’s like something out of a film – a boy from east London grows up to become a famous actor and meets royalty.

But for Chiwetel Ejiofor, who grew up in Forest Gate, that’s reality.

The 38-year-old was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to the arts.

Prince William presented him with his medal yesterday, Wednesday, October 28, at Buckingham Palace.

Although he was made an Order of the British Empire (OBE)  in the 2008 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Chiwetel’s status as an actor was elevated when he played Solomon Northup in 2013 film 12 Years A Slave, winning a BAFTA for his performance.
